The four free practice sessions that opened the 2021 NASCAR Whelen Euro Series at the iconic Ricardo Tormo Circuit in sunny Valencia are now over. In EuroNASCAR PRO, 2019 NWES champion Loris Hezemans dominated the standings behind the wheel of his # 7 Ford Mustang Hendriks Motorsport while Vladimiros Tziortzis was the fastest driver in EuroNASCAR 2 combined results with his Ford Mustang # ° 1.

The Flying Dutchman in first place

Hezemans was on fire in both of the 30-minute free practice sessions on Friday in Spain. The Dutchman clocked a lap of 1: 41.640 during final practice, which was fast enough to lead the standings. The 23-year-old defeated his teammate and reigning EuroNASCAR 2 champion Vittorio Ghirelli, who was 0.523 seconds slower behind the wheel of the # 50 Ford Mustang Hendriks Motorsport. Gianmarco Ercoli, in CAAL Racing colors, finished third and led the Junior Trophy with a gap of 0.723 seconds over Hezemans.

Back in NWES, Sebastiaan Bleekemolen has shown that he has never lost an ounce of his pace after skipping the 2020 season due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Dutchman clocked a lap clocking 1: 42.842 to take fourth place in the combined results and topped the Challenger Trophy standings. Nicolo Rocca of DF1 Racing, another Italian title contender, closed the top 5 with a solid run and a 0.931 second gap over Hezemans.

Another returning to NWES finished sixth: Frédéric Gabillon, who is back with RDV Competition in car n ° 3. Former Formula 1 champion Jacques Villeneuve finished seventh with the new Academy Motorsport / Alex Caffi Motorsport team. The Canadian is followed by Giorgio Maggi, vice-champion of EuroNASCAR 2 2019, and his French teammate, Thomas Ferrando who finished ninth. Solaris Motorsport rider Francesco Sini completed the top 10 with a lap of 1: 43.341.

Defending champion Alon Day was forced out of both practice sessions due to the tense situation in Israel, but was eventually able to join the circuit. Given the exceptional circumstances, Day will have 15 minutes of track on Saturday morning before qualifying.
